Birgir er arkitekt með sérhæfingu í borgarhönnun frá ISACF La Cambre í Brussel. Hann stofnaði Alternance árið 2000 og verkefni hans spanna allt frá borgarskipulagi og arkitektúr að húsgagnahönnun.

Astrid er sagnfræðingur, PhD. frá Háskóla Íslands og The Free University of Brussels og er sérhæfð í sögu borgarskipulags. Hún er meðeigandi Alternance og kennari við Landbúnaðarháskóla Íslands.

UMHVERFISSÁLFRÆÐINGUR PHD

Rekur einnig TGJ og kennir við HR. Páll er með doktorspróf í umhverfissálfræði frá Háskólanum í Sydney. Hann er sérfræðingur í mati á sálfræðilegum áhrifum umhverfis á heilsu og vellíðan, hvort um er að ræða náttúru eða byggt umhverfi.
SIGRÍÐUR KRISTJÁNSDÓTTIR SKIPULAGSFRÆÐINGUR
Er skipulagsfulltrúi og kennari í Skipulagsfræðum í Landbúnaðarháskóla Íslands. Hún lærði skipulagsfræði í Univeristy of Washington í Banaríkjunum og er með doktorspróf í umhverfisvísindum frá University of Birmingham í Bretlandi.

Útskrifuð arkitekt frá ISAF - LA Cambre í Brussel. Hún rekur samstarfsstofu Alternance í Brussel.

Lærði arkitektúr í ENSA Paris Val-de-Seine

ALTERNANCE
The office was created by Birgir Jóhannsson architect in 1999 and is now based both in Brussels and in Reykjavik.
Our field is very large in the project size way which goes from urban-planning to furniture event though our largest demand is in housing. Quality wise we essentially work on very difficult projects that ask for a lot of creativity.
The projects are in general designed from a global concept, which is generated by the need of the client, the organisation, outside influence, the environment, orientation, natural light and materials. The character of every space should reflect its use and represent its owner as well as being as polyvalent as possible and open for new users and destinations.
The style is mainly contemporary and integrated into the surroundings by the form, the use of materials, the transparency, or on the other hand translated in a voluntary opposition. We like to use natural and environmentally friendly materials and let them develop through the years in conserving their character and nobility.
When we work in historical places there is always a historical study with a deep reflection about the parts to keep and valorise as well of those who should leave place to new ideas.
